Awaji Island, Hyogo, Japan | villa

Private ocean-view villas on Awaji Island — where the Seto Inland Sea, organic island cuisine, and Japanese minimalism converge.

About this stay

Shimafumi spreads across a hillside overlooking the Seto Inland Sea on Awaji Island, the mythical birthplace of Japan. Each villa is a private world: floor-to-ceiling ocean views, outdoor terraces for watching fishing boats pass, and interiors that blend Japanese minimalism with island warmth. The restaurant celebrates Awaji's reputation as 'the kitchen of Japan' — the island's onions, seafood, and beef are legendary. Just two hours from Osaka, yet a different universe.

10 out of 10 location! Nice cafe overlooking the ocean, with pretty decent coffee. Lunch menu looked nice but didn’t try anything. Will def return when I’m next in Sodo.

Arrived here about 1230 and over 1/2 products sold out. No English Menu (not really an issue). Amazing location and probably the main reason for a visit. The Cheese Toast Set Menu was tasty. The Curry special was okay but not brilliant. Worth a visit, but only if going past and probably arrive for Brunch and not lunch if you want to be have a wide variety to choose from

A great spot to go for brunch - make sure to come shortly after opening or lots of the bread items will be sold out. The lunch set has a really nice variety of small dishes. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, although they can get quite crowded at lunchtime. The view of Mano Bay is really beautiful, especially in spring when there is still snow on the mountains.

This is a golden gem on the island of Sado. During the winter months the island slows down a lot but this dope little cafe still keeps its doors open and invites everyone in to their cozy corner on the bay. With the view of the mountains, Sea of Japan and shoreline, it’s the perfect spot for a cup of coffee or lunch. We even enjoyed the cool swing to lounge and take the beauty in, but the hospitality and comfiness that this place has is by far the best on Sado! Can’t wait to come back in the summer!

Very nice bakery and cafe! Everything we ate here was delicious! We came 2 days in a row. I recommend the hotdog for ¥600, which uses sausage from a local sausage maker (sorry, no picture).
