ARCANA IZU
A 16-room riverside forest retreat in the Izu mountains, where Michelin-level French cuisine meets deep woodland seclusion.
About this stay
ARCANA IZU hides in a forested ravine along the Kano River in the mountains of the Izu Peninsula. With only 16 rooms — each with floor-to-ceiling windows opening onto the forest canopy and river below — the retreat achieves a rare balance of culinary excellence and wilderness immersion. The restaurant, helmed by a chef trained in France, transforms local Izu ingredients into multi-course experiences. Private terraces, outdoor baths fed by river-warmed springs, and nothing but birdsong and flowing water.

Food was nice, but the stuff and services weren't as good or professional as other ryokans considering what I paid for. In Japan, there are some brilliant ryokans out there, which give you great qualities, atmosphere and services. They are normally less expensive than this place. NEVER AGAIN because the water was leaking to my room's outside bath from the outside bath above and I complained it, but never got any apologies from any stuff who acted it was usual. SHAME
This is place is magical. Nestled in the mountains of Izu rooms with private onsen overlooking the river. Nice rooms, good service and the wonderful Arcana restaurant serving exquisite French cuisine prepared by some of the most meticulous Japanese chefs I have ever seen. Quiet and restful place. A slice of heaven on earth.
Excellent service and truly one of the best culinary experiences I’ve ever had. The food is incredible, elaborate and technically perfect. The rooms are beautiful, each with a private onsen and located on the bank of a river. Highly recommended.
The room is a modern building, open design. Private open-air bath is the hotel, I can very relaxing. Meals are healthy and delicious, I was impressed. Also I think you want a visit.
Extremely low service for the price you’re supposed to pay. (180K jpy) Eventually I had to cancel my reservation because they wouldn’t provide with a vegetarian food option (they don’t accept any change to their menu apparently because it’s extra job for them) and rudely asked me to cancel my booking. (Yes that was the first and only email they sent me) Once I talked with the general manager over the phone, he was even more rude that’s when I thought it was enough. Funny how a supposedly“luxury” ryokan can’t provide a luxury service. Well good luck once you have international tourist back. [not even 1 star]
